Monday Night Football Player Props for Josh Allen in Bills vs. Titans

The Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills face off in an important game between two division leaders that appear to head in divergent directions. The Bills are riding a four-game win-streak and the Titans lost to the Jets two weeks ago and beat the helpless Jaguars last week.

At the center of this game is Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who has been putting up impressive numbers for what might be the best team in the AFC.

The Bills will continue to lean on the cannon that is Allen’s arm in this game. A candidate to win the MVP this year, Allen is 10th in the NFL in yards passing at 1,370 and fifth in touchdown passes with 12. A 62.3% completion rate can be thanked for his success this year in the air and I think the Titans give Allen one of the best statistical games of his season. 

Now, this is not necessarily because the Titans have a bad defense. After all, they do not. I do think, however, that Allen matches up well against them. The Titans tend to keep quarterbacks from completing passes with a strong 63.47 completion percentage, but the things they don’t do well will be their downfall Monday night. They rank 28th in opponent passing yards per play and 21st in opponent passing yards per game. 

The Titans give up, on average, 264.6 yards per game through the air but several of their games were to subpar passing offenses including the Jets and Jaguars. Against a competent passing offense, as the Bills have, I think Allen explodes and flirts with a 300-yard game.

If you haven’t already realized, I think that Allen is the key to Bills winning this game even more than a usually quarterback would be. I think the matchup is juicy not only in the passing game but, also on the ground. 

This total of just 32.5 yards is puzzling to me as Allen has rushed for more than that in all but one game so far this year. Allen has seen his usage in the ground game grow steadily over the last four weeks after seeing nine rushes in Week 1 against Pittsburgh. Between weeks 2-4, Allen totaled 15 rushes for 85 yards and a touchdown. Last week, however, against the Kansas City Chiefs, his role in the rushing game got even larger and Allen rushed 11 times for 59 yards. It was by far his best game on the ground since Week 1. 

I like for Allen to build upon this game and see another strong performance on the ground. To be fair, he doesn’t have to build on anything. If Allen is even below average for his stats this year he would still cash this prop.

Back to the well with Josh Allen’s ground attack but hey, there are a finite number of things we can bet on in terms of quarterback play. A lot of what was referenced above can be applied to this prop as well. But there is a bit more behind this touchdown pick than just his yards per game. 

The Bills have used Allen a lot in red zone rushing situations. While the quarterback only has two rushing touchdowns to show for it. Allen is 13th in NFL in red-zone rushing attempts with 12. That puts him ahead of Kareen Hunt and Melvin Gordon. The only QB who tops him on the list is Jalen Hurts with 14 attempts, and eight of those rushes were from inside the 10-yard line. 

I fully expect Allen to get at least a couple of attempts down near the goal line and think he has a good shot to punch on against the Titans.
