Morehead State vs. Xavier Prediction and Odds: The Eagles are Outmatched on the Road against the No. 22 Musketeers
By Matt De Saro
The No. 22 Xavier Musketeers are off to a red-hot start to the 2021-22 season with a 9-1 overall record. Their lone loss came against Iowa State a few weeks ago, but they bounced back and have won their last five games on the trot. The Musketeers already have wins over No. 15 Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Cincinnati in their last game. The Musketeers beat up on the Bearcats 83-63 and head into this game with a ton of momentum.
Meanwhile, the Morehead State Eagles are having a much quieter start to the season with a 6-4 record overall. The Eagles are coming off a close loss on the road against ETSU but this is not the best matchup for them to bounce back in. If the 15-point spread didn’t make it obvious, the Eagles are going to have their hands full tonight.

Morehead State vs. Xavier Prediction and Pick
The Eagles are still looking for their first “statement” win of the season over a high-profile team. These are the kinds of wins that Morehead State needs if they hope to earn an NCAA Tournament bid. I don’t see that happening tonight due to several holes in their game that Xavier should have no problem exploiting.
For one, the Eagles’ ball security is awful and they turn the ball over in nearly one-quarter of all of their offensive possessions (23.5%). With a turnover rate that high it's amazing, they have managed to win any games, let alone six. Xavier has several players that average more than 1 steal per game and I think this spells doom for the Eagles.
Xavier is better in every aspect of their game and I just don’t see any way that Morehead State puts up much of a fight here. Between turnovers, rebounding, and scoring, this game will be all Musketeers.
Pick: Xavier Musketeers -15 (-110)
