As we enter the final stretch of the NHL regular season and prepare for the postseason, it's important to know which teams we should be targetting as sports bettors.

Are there any undervalued dark horses we should be looking to wager on in the playoffs? On the other side of the coin, are there any overvalued teams we should avoid betting on? One of the best ways to find this out is by looking at how profitable each team has been to bet on this season.

All figures below are based on $100 moneyline bets.

Rangers Are Most Profitable Team in NHL

The New York Rangers have been the most profitable team to bet on this season, and it's not even close. Earning their backers almost twice as much as the next closest team, the Nashville Predators. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin deserves most of the credit for that, as a lot of the Rangers underlying numbers have been less than impressive this season.

If Shesterkin can keep up his stellar play in the postseason, the Rangers could be a team to look out for in the NHL playoffs.

Good Record Doesn't Always Mean Profit

The main takeaway from this is that the best teams in the NHL don't always make the best teams to bet on. If sports betting was as easy as betting on the good teams, we'd all be rich.

In fact, the top two teams in the NHL, the Avalanche and Panthers, barely crack the top 10 list. Also, teams like the Maple Leafs and Lightning, have actually lost bettors money for anyone who wagered on them every game this season.

Keep that in mind when the playoffs come around.
