The College Football season is set to begin this weekend!

With all the focus seemingly on the major conferences like the SEC, especially with the news that other big schools are shifting conferences in the near future, it’s important not to forget that some of the smaller conferences deserve love too.

Of all the non-BCS conferences, the Mountain West boasts some of the most exciting and high-level of college football you’ll find. San Jose State will enter the season as the defending champion, taking down Boise State in last year’s Mountain West Championship Game.

Boise State Heavily Favored to Win Fourth Conference Championship Game

The Boise State Broncos have been the kings of the Mountain West since the induction of the Championship Game in 2013. They’ve appeared in five of the eight championship games, winning three of them which currently stands as the most in the conference.

Boise State appeared in the Championship Game last season, but lost to the San Jose State Spartans 34-20. Their success will come down to the level of play of its quarterback. Hank Bachmeier has been streaky throughout his career with the Broncos, while also struggling with injuries. USC transfer Jack Sears will bring a bit more consistency to the position if Bachmeier goes down with another injury in 2021.

Nevada and San Jose State Will Battle it Out in the West Division

There’s little doubt that Boise State will represent the Mountain Division in the Championship Game, but the West Division representative is up for grabs. Nevada is slightly ahead of San Jose State on the odds list, and it will likely come down to those two schools.

The Wolf Pack will once again be a high-powered offense behind quarterback Carson Strong; who threw for 27 touchdowns last season. Whether or not Nevada can win its first Conference Championship Game will come down to its defense. The unit took a step forward in 2020, but it still gave up an average of 377.7 yards per game which ranked 42nd in the country.

If the Nevada defense can take another step forward, the Wolf Pack present great value to win the conference at +425.
