Don't Bet Against Joey Chestnut
Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, Joey Chestnut. The all-time greats in North American athletics.
Chestnut is the 14-time hot dog eating champion. He won it from 2007-2014, and then again from 2015-2021. The only year he didn't win, was in 2015 when he fell to Matt Stonie after having a subpar performance, only consuming 60 weiners.
Miki Sudo vs. Michelle Lusco
Much like Chestnut's step back in 2015, Miki Sudo suffered a similar fate in the women's competition last year. She won every year from 2014-2020, but there was a new champion crowned in 2021 when Michelle Lusco took the crown.
Unlike Chestnut, Sudo didn't technically lose, as she sat out of the competition due to the birth of her child. She's back in 2022 in an attempt to reclaim the women's championship belt.
Both Sudo and Chestnut are overwhelming favorites, so if you're going to bet on this event, I'd recommend looking at the over/under hot dogs consumed.
Best Bet for 2022 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
The total set for Joey Chestnut this year is set at 74.5. He went over this total the last two years, but consumed only 71 back in 2019. With that being said, betting on the under is frankly un-American.
Chestnut set a new World Record in 2021, downing 76 dogs. I'll admit that I don't know what's considered "past your prime" in the competitive eating world, but Chestnut clearly isn't slowing down anytime soon.
GIVE ME THE OVER!!
