The Arizona Diamondbacks gun for a sweep of the lowly Washington Nationals this afternoon with Corbin Martin making his first start of 2022. He's got a 4.40 ERA as a reliever this year but allowed just one run over his final two starts in the minors.

Washington has lost five straight as road underdogs but hope Erick Fedde can turn their fortunes around. He's got a 7.53 ERA this month but allowed three or fewer runs in 14 of his 18 outings this year. It's just that when he's bad, he's really bad, like when he gave up eight runs to Atlanta last week.

Will the Nationals get "Good Fedde" or will Martin and Arizona earn the sweep?

Let's take a peak at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help find out ahead of this Nationals vs Diamondbacks matchup:

Nationals vs Diamondbacks Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Nationals -1.5 (+143)
  • Diamondbacks +1.5 (-210)

Moneyline:

  • Nationals: +113
  • Diamondbacks: -123

Total:

  • 9.0 (Over -130/Under +110)

Nationals vs Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick

Things are bad right now for Washington. As the front office entertains trade offers for superstar Juan Soto, the lineup has responded by simply not scoring at all. In the Nationals' last 13 games as road underdogs, they have scored more than three runs once.

Corbin Martin struggled in his brief stint in the majors earlier this year but seems to have found his footing down in Triple-A. Over his last two starts in the minors, Martin allowed just six hits and one run in 14 innings while striking out 13 batters. That'll work, especially against a Washington lineup that ranks 29th in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks.

The thing about this matchup is we don't really know what we'll get from Martin. He could be good or he could be bad. But we already know for a fact that Erick Fedde is quite bad. The Nationals lost each of his last three starts by a combined score of 21-7, and his MLB Statcast Pitching Profile illustrates how much he's struggled:

Arizona outscored Washington 17-3 over the first two games of this series and I expect another convincing win to notch the sweep today. Back the home squad to win a fourth straight and continue the Nationals' miserable month.

Pick: Diamondbacks (-123)
