Nationals vs. Mets Prediction and Odds for Saturday, September 3 (Will Scherzer Dominate his Former Team?)
By Josh Yourish
The New York Mets kept it rolling after their series win over LA with a 7-3 win last night over the Washington Nationals. Things won’t get any easier for the 45-87 Nats with a struggling Patrick Corbin on the mound today and facing their former ace, Max Scherzer.
The Mets are huge favorites, so can they win big on a Saturday in Queens?

Nationals vs. Mets Prediction and Pick
Let’s just be frank about this game. It is a mismatch of epic proportions. Patrick Corbin is maybe the worst pitcher in baseball having a historically bad season with a 6.56 ERA over 26 starts. Honestly, credit to him for going out there every five days and continuing to take it on the chin. His last two outings have actually been better, only allowing three earned runs over his last 11.1 innings. So, maybe he can build on that, but he has spent much of the year with an ERA over six and at times it has gone over seven. I just don’t think this is going to turnaround in September.
Max Scherzer has simply been Max Scherzer. He had 11 strikeouts last time out and even with a few hiccups and injuries this year he has a 2.27 ERA in 19 starts. That explains the massive odds in favor of New York, but the run line won’t go to 2.5. If it would I would be all over that value, but at -169 on the run line for the Mets I don’t see that being worth an investment.
If you can find this one at 2.5, because some books do have it there, then I say go for it. But for my purposes, I’ll lean the UNDER because Scherzer should keep the Nats in check and Corbin can potentially build on his two straight solid starts.
Lean: UNDER 7.5 (-120)
