The 18-31 Washington Nationals have won four of five and hope to keep their winning ways going as they open a series with the 32-17 New York Mets tonight at 7:10 PM EST.

New York comes off a sweep of the Phillies themselves after winning in extra-innings last night. They'll send David Peterson to the mound for his fifth start of the year and he's been impressive, amassing a 2.16 ERA thus far.

Erick Fedde gets the call for Washington hoping to cap off a sublime May; collecting a 1.95 ERA, including six scoreless innings against the vaunted Dodgers in his last start.

Can Fedde's resurgence continue or will the New York's lineup prove too strong?

Let's take a gander at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to determine where the value lies in this Nationals vs Mets matchup:

Nationals vs Mets Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Nationals +1.5 (-130)
  • Mets -1.5 (+110)

Moneyline:

  • Nationals: +162
  • Mets: -177

Total:

  • 8.5 (Over -120/Under +100)

Nationals vs Mets Prediction and Pick

Is Erick Fedde good now? Signs sure seem to indicate he is. On top of having a 1.95 ERA this month, Fedde has a 1.99 ERA on the road this year and hasn't given up more than five hits in his last four starts.

The Nationals are 5-4 in Fedde's nine starts this year, but it's been quite profitable because they're usually underdogs. A $100 bettor would be up $247, and two of the losses came by just a single run. With a 7-2 run line record in Fedde's outings, the Nationals are clearly a team worth backing when he's on the mound.

Today is no different, despite the incredible season the Mets are putting together. David Peterson is falling back to earth a bit with a 4.09 ERA in May, and I expect New York to be exhausted after a hard-fought series with the Phillies.

Washington is not a good baseball team, but they're fully capable of pulling off the upset today. They have the third-highest road OPS in MLB this year and have been strong against left-handed pitchers.

I'll take a shot on Fedde continuing his strong month. I don't fault you if you just take the Nationals on the run line, but I love the +162 odds I'm getting on the moneyline. With Fedde's confidence brimming thanks to beating the Dodgers, I think he takes down another giant in the Mets today.

Pick: Nationals (+162)
