Sometimes writing about bad teams is more fun than writing about good teams. It’s almost cathartic to break down, in detail, why makes a team so bad. Today, I get the chance to cover two such teams in the same game.

The Baltimore Orioles will host the Washington Nationals in the finale of a short two-game set between the worst teams in the East from both leagues. With nothing on the line for either team, this game could get ugly fast.

While both teams are garbage, the Orioles are having more success recently than the Nationals. The O’s are 9-6 so far in 17 games this month while the Nats are 6-13 in their last 19. The Nationals are coming off a recent eight-game losing streak and really do look like the worst team in the MLB right now.

Nationals vs. Orioles Prediction and Pick

As I said above, I believe the Nationals are in worse shape right now than the Orioles. They are in worse shape than any team in the league actually. Despite ranking sixth in the league in batting average, the Nationals have been the worst overall pitching staff in the MLB.

They rank 30th ERA and WHIP, plus 29th in home runs per nine innings and 24th in outs per pitcher per game. It’s impressive how bad the Nationals are despite their batting average in fact. But, it's not surprising when you realize that they somehow rank 22nd in runs per game. I can’t remember a team that was so bad at making the most of their batting average than this Nationals team.

So, to sum up, the Nationals are the worst rotation in the league and cannot score runs despite having a solid batting average.

The Nationals' other problem today is their starter Erick Fedde. The righty is 4-5 overall with a 4.88 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 62 ⅔ innings. Fedde’s ERA this month is already up to 5.74 and he’s allowed the current O’s lineup to compile a .800 OPS against him.

I didn’t have faith in the Nats based on their offense, but with Fedde pitching, they are impossible to trust.

Pick: Orioles ML (-125)
