The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies do battle for the 10th time this season in Game 2 of their weekend series. Philly continues to push for a Wild Card Spot and without Juan Soto in the fold, things look like they’re about to go from bad to worse for Washington.

Josiah Gray makes the start of Friday night for Washington and Kyle Gibson takes the mound for the Phillies at home.

Nationals vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

The Phillies need to win these games against Washington if they want to solidify themselves as a Wild Card team in the National League. They will have a much better chance to do that now that Juan Soto is in a Padres uniform. That may sound counterintuitive because the Phillies are competing against San Diego for the Wild Card spot, but the trade may work in their favor.

Soto killed Philly and now that he is out of the way the Phillies should roll right over the Nats.

Honestly, I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I gave out the Nationals as a pick right now. That organization is in shambles just a few years after winning a World Series and even with Kyle Gibson, who has not been good for the Phillies, on the mound in this one I still can't do it. For what it's worth Josiah Gray has been even a little bit worse than Gibson.

Pick: Phillies -1.5 (-105)
