NBA Best Bets Today (Predictions for Donovan Mitchell, Brandon Ingram and Suns-Clippers on Sunday)
By Peter Dewey
I know it's an NFL Sunday, but I'll be locked into NBA action once again.
It's been an extremely profitable start to the season in my NBA Best Bets, as we've gone 14-4 since Tuesday's opening night.
A heavy dose of player props has been the recipe to start this season, and I'm going to back to them with plays for Brandon Ingram and Donovan Mitchell on Sunday. Plus, I may be the biggest Los Angeles Clippers believer in the world right now.
You came for picks, so let's break down each one for Sunday, Oct. 23:
NBA Best Bets Record to Date
- NBA Best Bets Record for 2022-23 Season: 14-4 (+8.5943 units)
NBA Best Bets Today
- Donovan Mitchell OVER 37.5 Points, Rebounds and Assists (-105)
- Brandon Ingram OVER 33.5 Points, Rebounds and Assists (-120)
- Los Angeles Clippers ML vs. Phoenix Suns (-105)
Donovan Mitchell OVER 37.5 Points, Rebounds and Assists (-105)
Mitchell has been terrific in his first two games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he’s immediately stepped in as a primary playmaker with Darius Garland (eye) sidelined for the majority of the team’s first two games.
Mitchell went for 31 points, two rebounds and nine assists in the team’s season opener. He followed that up with a monster game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, posting 32 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
The Washington Wizards are 2-0, but I don’t know how they’ll match up with a bigger Cavs team, which should give Mitchell plenty of playmaking opportunities on Sunday. The fact that Mitchell is a threat to score 30-plus every night puts 37.5 PRA very much in reach when he’s essentially playing the point.
Brandon Ingram OVER 33.5 Points, Rebounds and Assists (-120)
Brandon Ingram is staking an early claim for his second All-Star appearance by scoring 28 points in each of the New Orleans Pelicans’ first two games.
The do-it-all forward has soared past this line in each of his games, tallying 40 and 44 points, rebounds and assists. Now, he gets a Utah Jazz team that has played well (2-0), but has allowed 102 and 126 points through its first two games.
If Utah is going to play uptempo like it has the first two games, New Orleans (10th in pace) will certainly oblige. Similar to Mitchell, Ingram could push this number on points alone, so I love the OVER.
Los Angeles Clippers ML vs. Phoenix Suns (-105)
Have I bet on the Clippers in every game they’ve played this season? Yes.
Am I doing it again tonight? Also, yes.
The Clippers scraped by with a win over the Sacramento Kings last night behind 40 points from Paul George, but they didn’t have Kawhi Leonard or John Wall, who were sitting the first night of a back-to-back.
Now, the Clippers get both players back for their home opener against a Suns team that lost to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and needed a major comeback to beat the Dallas Mavericks in its season opener. I’ll take the Clippers to win outright as home dogs on Sunday.
