Joel Embiid reportedly will be in Philadelphia for the long haul.

The Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center agreed to a four-year, $196 million extension with the team, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

The deal will keep Embiid in Philly through the 2026-27 NBA season. The Sixers, who earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season but were knocked out in the second round of the playoffs by the Atlanta Hawks, clearly believe in Embiid as the future of the franchise.

WynnBET currently has the Sixers’ NBA Finals odds at +1800, which is good for sixth on the odds list between the Phoenix Suns (+1600) and Denver Nuggets (+2000).

With Embiid back for the long haul, the Sixers’ focus now moves to what they will do with guard Ben Simmons. The All-Star guard has been the subject of trade talks all offseason, and his fit with Embiid in Philadelphia’s offense has been questioned for some time due to Simmons’ reluctance to shoot the 3-point shot.

With Embiid locked in to a massive deal, it seems that Simmons could be on the way out, or the Sixers are content with running it back with the same roster from last season.

Philadelphia made some minor moves to bolster its bench this offseason, bringing in Andre Drummon on Georges Niang to help replace the loss of Dwight Howard, and it also re-signed shooters Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz.

Outside of the concerns around Simmons, Philly will need to hope that Embiid’s torn meniscus, which he reportedly didn’t have surgery on, will hold up next season.

The Sixers have a solid roster to compete in the Eastern Conference, especially with Embiid there for several more seasons, but they still haven’t found a way to make an Eastern Conference Finals appearance since the 2000-01 season.
