NBA Finals MVP Odds: Devin Booker Shooting His Way Out Of Contention
Just a week before the Finals began, Devin Booker was the favorite to win Finals MVP. Three games into the series, the award seems destined to go to either Giannis Antetokounmpo or Chris Paul. As every game passes by, Booker keeps shooting his way out of the conversation.
WynnBET has Paul as the favorite to win the award going into Game 4. Paul’s odds are at -275 and Antetokounmpo is behind him at +185. Meanwhile, Booker is a distant third place with +900 odds.
Booker hasn’t been on his game since early in the Western Conference Finals. Patrick Beverely broke Booker’s nose in Game 2 and he hasn’t been right since. In the games prior to the injury, Booker was averaging 29.0 points per game on 49.1% shooting. After his injury, Booker is scoring 22.6 points per game on 35.6% shooting, a drastic change.
Game 3 was Booker’s worst game of this entire postseason. He scored his playoff low (10), had his worst shooting performance (21.4%), and played his least amount of minutes (29). With P.J. Tucker following him around, Booker's job is as hard as ever.
Although the series is 2-1 and still leaves room for anyone to make a significant impact, I don’t see much value in Booker’s odds. Game 2 was his best game of the Finals, but it looks like that was the exception to the rule at this point.
If the Suns win, Paul will be first in line for the award. It would take an all-time performance across the final four games for Booker to make the jump back into the lead, and I just don’t see that happening.
