The Minnesota Timberwolves are on track to have their second-best season in the last 17 years with the playoffs in sight for the second time in five years. Right now, they would have to make the playoffs via the play-in.

The Timberwolves are in the No. 7 seed in the Western conference. Right above the T-Wolves are the Denver Nuggets. They are only 1.5 games above the Wolves and 25 games left in the season.

With plenty of time and both teams in a good groove right now, can the Timberwolves catch up to the Nuggets and avoid having to play in the play-in? Let’s set the odds.

Odds Timberwolves Jump Nuggets In the Standings

  • Yes: +175
  • No: -110

Timberwolves Avoid Play-in Tournament

One of the biggest issues with the Nuggets this season is the fact that Nikola Jokic has no help. He’s had to carry the team every night and with Jamal Murray still not ready, it could start to weigh on Jokic. The Timberwolves have three players who can carry the load offensively and that helps keep them balanced.

Although the Nuggets have the easier schedule the rest of the way, they still have three games against the Golden State Warriors, which could throw them off the rails.

Minnesota has been playing better offense, but the consistency will be key if the Wolves want to take down the Joker.

Nuggets Avoid Play-in Tournament

Denver has a lot of advantages over the Wolves down the final stretch of the season. The Nuggets have one more game, already have a couple games up and have the best player on either team. It would take a serious slide from the Nuggets to give up their spot and right now, Denver is doing just enough to maintain. Both teams are on two-game winning streaks right now and if they continue to trade winning streaks, the Nuggets will be safe and get the No. 6 seed.
