NC State and Boston College will square off on primetime Saturday night in Chestnut Hill. Both teams are coming into this game well-rested off bye weeks. Both teams enter this one with a 4-1 record and some impressive wins on both sides. Particularly the Wolfpack who, earlier in the season, beat Clemson. They became the first ACC team to do so in quite some time.

Let’s break down and examine the betting odds from WynnBET and pick the best bet for this ACC showdown.

NC State vs. Boston College Prediction and Pick

NC State’s bread and butter comes in the form of its passing game. The team has leaned heavily on quarterback Devin Leary to lead his team to victories week after week. And lead he has done.

Leary is 124 for 184 with 1,283 yards passing and a dozen touchdowns compared with two interceptions this season. He was particularly impressive in NC State’s win over Clemson’s world-class defense. Against the Tigers, Leary threw for 238, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. One thing to note is that Leary is not a mobile quarterback. Especially for a college kid. He has a dismal -36 rushing yards this year. His career-best run was 8 yards.

Not to be worry because the Wolfpack’s rushing game is no pushover. The group has combined to rack up 860 yards and nine touchdowns in the five games this season. BC has an above-average defense in terms of rushing (43rd) and passing (49) giving up 131 YPG on the ground and 221.1 in the air.

The quarterback situation in Boston is a bit murkier. The team has been forced to turn to Dennis Grosel, who has played well, since starter Phil Jurkovec went down with an injury.

To be honest, these two teams match up quite well and I’m surprised the spread isn’t closer to 1 point. I think this is due to Boston College’s recent struggles on the defensive side of the ball. In its last game out, the defense surrendered 231 yards rushing and 223 yards in the air against Clemson. To be fair, it was against Clemson. However, NC State was able to beat them a couple of weeks earlier and this is far from the dominant Tigers teams we have become accustomed to in the past.

Despite this, I keep coming back to one betting trend and cannot keep my mind off it. The Wolfpack have covered just once in their last eight tries against BC in Boston. With both teams matching up well, and rested, my gut tells me to go with the home team. And, when the home team has such a strong record against, the underdog pick becomes too tempting.

Pick: Boston College +2.5 (-105)
