A pair of Big Ten foes do battle on Friday night in Piscataway, New Jersey in a projected coin flip.

Rutgers was handed a blowout loss to the hands of Big Ten favorite Ohio State, but now enter a winnable game at home against Nebraska, who won by double digits at home against Indiana on Saturday.

Here are the odds for this Big Ten matchup:

Nebraska vs. Rutgers Odds, Spread and Total

  • Rutgers has gone OVER in three of five games this season
  • Rutgers is 1-1 against the spread (ATS) as an underdog this season

Nebraska vs. Rutgers Prediction and Pick

While Nebraska looked strong last week against a listless Indiana team, I can't trust them on the road against Rutgers. The Cornhuskers defense remains a massive issue for the team as they rank bottom 15 in the country in EPA/Play and bottom 10 in success rate.

The Scarlett Knights are far from an offensive powerhouse, but they are formidable on the ground, ranking 14th in success rate. The team ranks top 40 in offensive line yards this season and does a fine job of staying ahead of the sticks.

Rutgers can't get into a track meet with Nebraska as Casey Thompson and the Cornhuskers offense is far superior, 23rd in success rate and top 40 in yards per pass attempt. They will be looking to push the ball downfield against Rutgers, who may be middling in terms of their explosive pass defense, but they have a strong defensive line top 10 in the country and one of the best punters in the country in Adam Korsak.

If Rutgers can play the field position game and shorten the amount of possessions each team has, they can hang within the number here. At home, against a Cornhuskers team that I still have my questions about, I'll trust the better defense to stay close.
