Net Yards Per Play Report: Who Has the Edge in Super Bowl 57?

After an entire NFL season, we're down to the final two teams.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl 57 in Glendale, Arizona. It's not often that we truly get the top two teams in the NFL facing off in the Super Bowl, but that's that case this season.

Not only were they the two No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences, but my favorite stat, net yards per play, support that claim.

If you don't already know, net yards per play is the number you're left over with when you take the average yards gained per play on offense and subtract the average yards given up per play on defense. Remember, net yards per play doesn't favtor in things like third down conversion rate, turnovers, and red zone efficiency.

With that being said, it's a great way to evaluate teams from a broad perspective.

Let's take a look at where the Chiefs and Eagles compare in this key stat.

Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl 57

The Chiefs and the Eagles, for the majority of the season, have been the top two teams in net yards per play. That's no different heading into the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs hold the stop spot at at +1.2, and the Eagles are right behind them at +1.1.

Kansas City also has the slight edge in recent games, coming in at +0.8 over its last three games compared to Philadelphia at +0.7.

The biggest advantage the Chiefs may have, has been their play away from their home stadium. They were, according to net yards per play, the best road team in the NFL, sporting a net yards per play of +1.6 when playing away from their home stadium.

The Eagles were solid on the road as well, at +1.0, but still not as good as the Chiefs. That could give Kansas Citya slight edge in a neutral site environment.
