Nets vs. Raptors prediction and odds for Thursday, July 13 (Winless Raptors)

Toronto has yet to get a win in Vegas and on the second night of a back-to-back it could struggle to get it against the Nets and their scoring guards.

Yesterday was a step in the right direction for the Toronto Raptors first-round pick Gradey Dick, who led them with 22 points in a 94-90 loss to the Pistons.

Dick is playing well in the Summer League and today he will be matched up with his former teammate Jalen Wilson and the Brooklyn Nets.

The Raptors are 0-3 in Vegas and the Nets, who beat the Bucks on Tuesday, are 2-1 with their first-round pick, Noah Clowney. Let’s get into the odds for this matchup with the Raptors on the second night of a back-to-back in Vegas.

Nets vs. Raptors odds, spread and total

Spread

  • Nets -4.5 (-110)
  • Raptors +4.5 (-110)

Moneyline

Nets vs. Raptors prediction and pick

Somehow, against the Pistons, three of the five Raptors starters were a plus in the game and yet Markquis Nowell was a minus-9 in 30 minutes and Ron Harper Jr. was a minus-21 in 33 minutes.

Plus/minus doesn't always tell the story, but it looks like here it’s telling a pretty compelling one. Harper Jr. was 4-for-10 from the field and finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal, but no assists. He was 0-for-3 from deep and likely something of a turnstile on the defensive end.

Nowell certainly is a defensive liability and that’s a big reason that the Raptors gave up 94 points to the Pistons without James Wiseman, Jalen Duran or Jaden Ivey on the floor.

I worry about them again in this matchup, especially on the second night of a back-to-back. Gradey Dick did play well with his 22 points, but those came on 19 shots.

The Nets have athletic scoring threats in the backcourt with David Duke Jr. and Kennedy Chandler. If Harper Jr. and Nowell allowed 18 points to Jared Rhoden and 15 to Marcus Sasser, then Duke and Chandler will have their way in this matchup.

I’m taking the Nets to drop Toronto to 0-4.

Pick: Nets -4.5 (-110)
