As we approach the 2022 NFL regular season, we here at BetSided will be writing a daily preview for all 32 teams. You can find the full list of team previews here. On today's slate: the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots avoided missing the NFL playoffs for the second straight season last year when they finish 10-7 and were rewarded with a wild card berth.

Unfortunately, their success didn't last long as they were blown out, 47-17, by their divisional rival, the Buffalo Bills on the opening round of the postseason.

Can Mac Jones take a step forward in his second year under center? Will the Patriots challenge the Bills in the AFC East?

Let's take a look at what the oddsmakers think, as well as my prediction for the Patriots upcoming season.

New England Patriots 2022 Offseason Moves and Signings

  • RB James White announced his retirement on August 11th.
  • Patriots selected OG Cole Strange from Chattanooga with the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
  • Signed CB Malcolm Butler
  • Offensive Coordinator, Josh McDaniels, left the team to become HC of the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • Traded for WR Devante Parker from the Miami Dolphins.

New England Patriots 2022 Schedule

The Patriots start their season in Miami for a divisional battle against the Dolphins.

They'll play in a Prime Time slot five different times this season. They'll face the Chicago bears on Monday Night Football in Week 7. They'll then play in Prime Time games four-straight weeks from Week 12 to Week 15.

Those games include:

  • Week 12: Thursday Night Football vs. Vikings (Thanksgiving)
  • Week 13: Thursday Night Football vs. Bills
  • Week 14: Monday Night Football vs. Cardinals
  • Week 15: Sunday Night Football vs. Raiders

New England Patriots 2022 Win Total Prediction

  • OVER 8.5 Wins (-125)
  • UNDER 8.5 Wins (+105)

I think the Patriots could be in for some regression this season, and the oddsmakers seem to agree. Despite winning 10 games last year, they've set their win total for 2022 at 8.5.

My main concern about them is their offense. Not only did they lose their offensive coordinator and several other offensive assistants, but they did virtually nothing to improve on last year's squad.

Sure, they added Devante Parker, but a supporting receiver cast of Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers, and Nelson Agholor isn't exactly giving me much confidence. To be honest, Parker doesn't do a lot for me either. He had one great season in Miami in 2019, but in every other year, he's underperformed and has dealt with a myriad of injuries.

Furthermore, they're replacing one of the best offensive coordinators in football, Josh McDaniels, with two former defensive coordinators, Joe Judge and Matt Patricia.

I think New England is going to struggle this season. And, to be honest, it's about time.

Pick: UNDER 8.5 Wins (+105)

New England Patriots 2022 Odds to Win AFC East, AFC, and Super Bowl

  • To Make the Playoffs: +160
  • Odds to Win AFC East: +500
  • Odds to Win AFC: +2200
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl 57: +5000

If I'm going to take the under on their win total of 8.5, then it's obvious that I'm not going to bet on them to make the playoffs, let alone win their division.

If you're a Patriots fan, or if you disagree with everything I've written, I'd recommend betting on them to make the playoffs at +160. Don't be tempted to bet on them to win their division at +500. The Buffalo Bills are stacked from top to bottom, and despite beating them once last season, the Patriots can't hang with them.

The AFC might be as good as its ever been this year, and I think the patriots are going to be on the outside looking in when it's time for the playoffs.
