NFL Best Teams ATS in First Half of the 2022 Season
We’re officially past the halfway point in the NFL season. While the jury is still out on who is going to win the Super Bowl, betting on these teams on a week-to-week basis has given us some answers and plenty of information to use moving forward.
Normally, I go through the three best teams ATS, but today we’re going through the top 5 teams to back on the spread going into the second half of the year.
There are some surprises, but also some teams that have worked for us all year long.
Top 5 NFL Teams Against the Spread in the First Half
New York Giants (6-2)
New York has been an underdog in five of its six wins, giving it one of the best ATS records in the league. Behind a revamped rushing offense, the Giants are able to control the clock, limit Daniel Jones’ interceptions and allow the defense to keep them in the game.
This week is going to be a huge test for Giants’ ATS bettors. The Giants face the Houston Texans as 6.5-point favorites. This is the biggest favorite the Giants are likely to be all season, and a comfortable cover will show whether they are legitimate or not.
Dallas Cowboys (6-2)
Dallas was off this past week, but they are one of the most complete teams in the league.
The Cowboys have an elite defense and have Dak Prescott back under center, and the offense is clicking again with Prescott back, which raises their ceiling.
Dallas has covered in each game as a favorite this season, so even as the lines adjust, they remain a good bet.
Tennessee Titans (6-2)
The Titans are being the Titans again. They somehow find ways to compete, which allows them to cover as underdogs week in and week out. Tennessee covered a massive spread against the Chiefs – holding a lead as the game was winding down.
Yet, the Titans are the team on this list I worry the most about. Ryan Tannehill remains out, which has forced Malik Willis into the quarterback duties as a rookie. If he can’t make critical throws when the team is down, I’m not sure I can trust them simply turning around and handing the ball to Derrick Henry.
Seattle Seahawks (6-3)
Seattle is the surprise of the season. We thought they’d be in the trenches with Geno Smith and/or Drew Lock as their quarterback. However, Smith has played better than ever and has the Seahawks at the top of NFC West. With an elite offense and an improving defense, Seattle has merit every week on the spread.
New York Jets (6-3)
The Jets have covered as an underdog in five of their six wins, and were a six-point favorite in three of those games. New York’s defense has carried it through the season. It’s top 10 in points per game, yards per game and yards per play. With Zach Wilson still growing into the starting quarterback role and Breece Hall’s injury stunting the offense, this defense is integral to what the Jets do.
New York is heading into a bye week, but it is expected to be a sizable underdog after the week off against the New England Patriots. As long as Robert Saleh has the defense firing, the Jets are a solid ATS bet.
