NFL MVP Tracker: Which Players Saw Their Odds Move Most?
By Thomas Snodgrass
A great deal of opinions are made after Week 1. The public gets to see how certain players perform; some players with new teams and new situations, some in the same place you saw them a decade ago. So, as Week 2 comes into focus, how have the NFL MVP Futures shifted?
WynnBET Sportsbook have shifted their lines on MVP odds on a few notable players, with Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ MVP odds dropping from +1100 to +1500 and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s MVP odds falling from +900 to +1400.
Rodgers had an abysmal game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. Rodgers completed just 15 of 28 passes for a measly 133 passing yards and two interceptions. And if posting bad numbers didn’t hurt Rodgers' MVP stock enough, he got benched for Jordan Love later in the game.
This may be an early overreaction on Rodgers, and +1500 now looks like a decent value on a player of Rodgers’ caliber. He’ll get a shot to rebound this week against the Detroit Lions.
Allen faced a quietly strong Pittsburgh Steelers defense, but still had a solid performance. Allen completed 30 of 51 passes for 270 passing yards and one touchdown. Maybe not an MVP-level game in the box score, but Allen will have his fair share of those.
Allen dropping to +1400 also seems like an overreaction. Allen has a decent amount of weapons around him that should help him post big numbers and climb back up this odds list soon.
Moving up the MVP Futures odds list, WynnBET has moved their lines on New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston, from +3000 to +1600, and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, from +1500 to +750.
Winston put up five passing touchdowns on the opposite end of Rodgers’ clunker in Week 1. Winston completed just 14 of 20 passes for 148 yards as well. Five touchdowns on 14 completions is ridiculous, and Winston’s MVP odds have skyrocketed from his unsustainable exploits.
Stafford picked apart the Chicago Bears defensive secondary in Week 1, completing 20 of 26 passes for 321 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Stafford was able to put up big numbers in his career with the Lions, but now with a Rams team that is actually expected to win a decent number of games, it will be interesting to see how the MVP voters look at Stafford for MVP if he is finally playing for a winner.
Here’s how the NFL MVP odds currently stand at WynnBET Sportsbook:
Patrick Mahomes +550
Matthew Stafford +750
Kyler Murray +1000
Justin Herbert +1000
Tom Brady +1000
Russell Wilson +1200
Josh Allen +1400
Lamar Jackson +1500
Dak Prescott +1500
Aaron Rodgers +1500
Jameis Winston +1600
