NFL Power Rankings Based on Super Bowl Odds Ahead of Week 8 (Bucs, Packers Plummeting, Burrow's Bengals Back?)
By Peter Dewey
The NFL is the only place where teams can be a game out of first place in their division and also look like they are the worst team in the NFL (see the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons).
Seriously, the league has bene turned upside down with upsets, and two expected title contenders, the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, look to be in serious trouble through seven weeks of the season.
Do Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers turn things around and get their respective teams into the playoffs? Time will tell.
One quarterback who is looking back to his old self is Joe Burrow, slinging the ball all over the yard in a blowout win over Atlanta. Suddenly, Burrow and the Bengals look like the team to beat in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens' offense still looking out of sorts.
New York teams continue to win, but the New York Jets lost some key contributors for the season in Week 7. How does that effect this week's power rankings?
Let's dive in:
1. Philadelphia Eagles (+500) Last Week: No. 1
The undefeated Eagles stay in the top spot on their bye week.
2. Buffalo Bills (+290) LW: No. 2
The Bills remain in the No. 2 spot on their bye week.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (+650) LW: No. 3
Patrick Mahomes and company trounced the San Francisco 49ers, and they firmly are in the hunt to win the Super Bowl.
4. Minnesota Vikings (+1500) LW: No. 4
The Vikings retain their No. 4 spot even though they were on the bye this week.
5. Cincinnati Bengals (+1800) LW: No. 9
Joe Burrow looked terrific in Week 7, throwing for 481 yards and three scores. Has the Super Bowl hangover finally left Cincy?
6. Dallas Cowboys (+1700) LW: No. 6
The Cowboys won in Dak Prescott's return, but the offense still wasn't great. However, the rest of the NFC is collapsing, a good sign for Dallas' playoff hopes.
7. New York Giants (+4000) LW: No. 10
The Giants just keep winning! A late comeback and goal-line stand moved New York to 6-1 in the 2022 season.
8. Baltimore Ravens (+1600) LW: No. 8
The Ravens offense looks out of sorts, but Lamar Jackson and company held on to beat the Browns in Week 6.
9. Tennessee Titans (+5000) LW: No. 14
The Titans don't really need to throw the ball to win some games, especially when they face teams in the putrid AFC South.
10. Los Angeles Chargers (+2600) LW: No. 5
The Chargers are impossible to figure out. They looked awful in Week 7 against the Seahawks and there should be a lot of soul searching done during the team's Week 8 bye.
11. Los Angeles Rams (+2500) LW: No. 11
The Rams drop a spot on their bye week.
12. Miami Dolphins (+3300) LW: No. 15
Tua Tagovailoa returned for the Dolphins and led them to a win, albeit an ugly one, on Sunday Night Football.
13. Seattle Seahawks (+10000) LW: No. 21
Geno Smith didn't write back, and now the Seahawks are in first place in the NFC West. What a turn of events.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1400) LW: No. 7
The Buccaneers were held to three points in a loss to Carolina in Week 7. This team is in danger of missing the playoffs, a real waste for Tom Brady's return to football.
15. San Francisco 49ers (+1700) LW: No. 12
The 49ers may have traded for Christian McCaffrey, but they were absolutely smoked by the Chiefs in Week 7. That defense needs to get healthy for this team to make a playoff run.
16. New York Jets (+7500) LW: No. 18
The Jets would be higher on this list at 5-2, but they lost rookie running back Breece Hall and second-year lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker for the season in Week 7.
17. Green Bay Packers (+2800) LW: No. 13
The Packers... stink? Green Bay's offense has been stuck in mud all season, and a loss to the Commanders may be the tipping point for where we shouldn't consider them a title contender.
18. New England Patriots (+6000) LW: No. 17
The Patriots suffered an ugly loss on Monday Night Football to the Bears, and they may have created a QB controversy by playing both Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones.
19. Indianapolis Colts (+6600) LW: No. 17
Matt Ryan is out and Sam Ehlinger is in for the struggling Colts. Winning the division is going to be an uphill battle.
20. Arizona Cardinals (+6600) LW: No. 24
The Cardinals welcomed DeAndre Hopkins back into the lineup with a big win on Thursday Night Football.
21. Las Vegas Raiders (+5000) LW: No. 25
Josh Jacobs looks like a new man this season, and the Raiders have to be kicking themselves for declining his fifth-year option this past offseason.
22. Atlanta Falcons (+20000) LW: No. 19
The Falcons refuse to throw the ball, even though they drafted Kyle Pitts and Drake London in the top-10 in consecutive drafts. Yet, they are tied for first in the NFC South.
23. Cleveland Browns (+9000) LW: No. 22
The Browns's season is tanking fast at 2-5, and they may look to sell off players like Kareem Hunt and Greedy Williams at the trade deadline.
24. New Orleans Saints (+10000) LW: No. 23
The Saints sit at 2-5 and are just a game out of first in the division. What a time to be in the NFC South.
25. Washington Commanders (+25000) LW: No. 28
Taylor Heinicke is making his case for the starting job after upsetting the Packers in Week 7.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars (+7500) LW: No. 26
Trevor Lawrence played well in Week 7, but the Jaguars came up short again, failing to score on the game's final play.
27. Chicago Bears (+75000) LW: No. 29
The Bears move up for their win over the Patriots, but let's not forget some of the poor offensive performances this team has put up in 2022. Regardless, this was a good win.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers (+50000) LW: No. 27
Kenny Pickett loves throwing interceptions, and the growing pains that come with a rookie quarterback are going to keep the Steelers far away from the postseason in 2022.
29. Denver Broncos (+12500) LW: No. 20
Russell Wilson, Brett Rypien, it doesn't matter. The Broncos offense under Nathaniel Hackett stinks. This team is going nowhere fast.
30. Carolina Panthers (+50000) LW: No. 31
The Panthers traded away Christian McCaffrey and then promptly upset the Buccaneers. That's football, I guess.
31. Detroit Lions (+25000) LW: No. 30
Dan Campbell's team is going in the tank once again, and it's hard to see him getting much longer of a leash if the Lions can't put together a few wins.
32. Houston Texans (+100000) LW: No. 32
The Texans saw the good, bad and ugly from Davis Mills in Week 7, losing to the Raiders to fall to 1-4-1 on the season. Dameon Pierce remains a bright spot on offense, though.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
