NFL Power Rankings Based on Super Bowl Odds (Panthers Make QB Decision, Deshaun Watson Suspended)
By Peter Dewey
Some major dominoes fell in the NFL over the past week, with the biggest being the 11-game suspension for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Cleveland's questionable decision to commit its future to Watson finally has a consequence, although he should've received a more severe punishment for his actions in my eyes.
A former Brown, Baker Mayfield, won the quarterback job in Carolina for the 2022 season. That gives us a better outlook on the NFC South, but is it enough to move Carolina in this week's rankings?
Each week at BetSided, yours truly is breaking down the latest roster moves, injuries and more in our NFL Power Rankings. It's never too early to consider your Super Bowl futures, and we're getting closer and closer to games that count in the NFL.
So without further ado, here's my latest power rankings based on the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook to win it all in 2022.
1. Buffalo Bills (+650)
This may the be the year of Josh Allen. The Bills are Super Bowl favorites, he's the MVP favorite and they have a loaded roster.
2. Los Angeles Rams (+1000)
The Rams could benefit from the Bucs and Packers dealing with some personnel issues this offseason.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+700)
Tom Brady is expected to return to Tampa this week, but the team lost another offensive lineman to injury for the entire season.
4. Kansas City Chiefs (+1000)
Patrick Mahomes has been LIGHTS OUT in the preseason. I think this is a value price for K.C. entering 2022.
5. Green Bay Packers (+1000)
Aaron Rodgers has been critical of some young receivers so far this offseason, and life after Davante Adams may not be as smooth as some thought.
6. Los Angeles Chargers (+1400)
Vegas is all in on Justin Herbert and the Chargers, who are trying to make the playoffs after just missing the cut in 2021.
7. Dallas Cowboys (+1800)
Dallas seems to need another receiver to help out CeeDee Lamb until Michael Gallup is back healthy.
8. Denver Broncos (+1600)
The Broncos' backups got trounced in the preseason by Buffalo's starters. Nathaniel Hackett is keeping things really close to the vest this offseason.
9. Baltimore Ravens (+1800)
Lamar Jackson's contract could be a hot topic this season if the Ravens can't work out a deal prior to the regular season.
10. Cincinnati Bengals (+2000)
The Bengals have a tough schedule, but they are also a young team that made noticeable improvement to the roster this offseason. Is that enough to return to the Super Bowl?
11. San Francisco 49ers (+1600)
The big question for San Francisco is where it will send Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason.
12. Philadelphia Eagles (+2500)
The public loves the Eagles, and it's hard not to with the additions they made this offseason. However, can Jalen Hurts take the next step to turn them into a true contender?
13. Indianapolis Colts (+2500)
Many people are high on Matt Ryan, but the Colts are going to still need to be an elite defensive team to really make a playoff run in 2022.
14. Arizona Cardinals (+3000)
The Cardinals are without DeAndre Hopkins for six games (suspension, PEDs) and they averaged 10 fewer points per game without him in 2021. That's an ominous sign for the start of the season.
15. Las Vegas Raiders (+3000)
The Raiders may be the most underrated team in the AFC after making the postseason in 2021.
16. New England Patriots (+4000)
The Patriots' offense is a little underwhelming, and they lost a key player in second-round pick Tyquan Thornton to a collarbone injury in Week 2.
17. Miami Dolphins (+3000)
Tua Tagovailoa looked fine in his first preseason action, and he could really move the needle for this Dolphins team with a strong 2022 season.
18. Minnesota Vikings (+3000)
A new, offensive-minded coaching staff may help Justin Jefferson turn into the league's leading receiver in 2022.
19. New Orleans Saints (+4000)
If Jameis Winston is healthy, the Saints should be a playoff team in 2022, especially with all of their weapons on offense.
20. Cleveland Browns (+3000)
Deshaun Watson will miss the team's first 11 games, and I don't have a ton of confidence in Jacoby Brissett to lead this team to the playoffs.
21. Tennessee Titans (+4000)
The Titans' passing game is really going to determine how successful this offense will be in 2022.
22. Pittsburgh Steelers (+7500)
Kenny Pickett is here? Pickett was 6-for-7 for 76 yards and a score in his second preseason action. He should make starts in 2022.
23. Washington Commanders (+6000)
Carson Wentz went 0-for-3 on third downs in Week 2 against the Chiefs. It's only preseason, but relying on Wentz to win you games is a risky proposition.
24. Carolina Panthers (+15000)
Welcome to the Baker Mayfield era, Carolina. It almost can't be worse that what happened at quarterback last season.
25. New York Giants (+10000)
The Giants defense may be the way this team can make a playoff push in the first season under Brian Daboll.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars (+15000)
If Trevor Lawrence can turn around a rough rookie season, Jacksonville will rise from this spot in 2022.
27. Chicago Bears (+10000)
The Bears need to at least protect Justin Fields better if they want any chance of making the playoffs in 2022.
28. Seattle Seahawks (+15000)
Week 2 of the preseason was a bit of a wash for Seattle with Drew Lock missing the game due to COVID-19.
29. New York Jets (+15000)
Zach Wilson looks like a long shot to play in Week 1, and any time he misses is a huge loss for a Jets team that could be on the upswing in 2022.
30. Detroit Lions (+20000)
The public loves the Lions this season, which makes me nervous that they are going to fall short of their win total (6.5).
31. Atlanta Falcons (+25000)
The Falcons close out Week 2 of the preseason with the Jets on Monday. It's possible Marcus Mariota locks up the starting job this week.
32. Houston Texans (+25000)
Davis Mills played well late in his run in the Texans' second preseason game, but he also had five drives that did very little.
