NHL Best Bets Today (Back Blues to Improve to 2-0)
We only have three games to bet on for tonight's NHL slate, which means that I have a pick for you for each one.
Can the Philadelphia Flyers improve to a surprising 4-0? Can the Winnipeg Jets upset the defending champs? Can the Blues take down the Kraken in Seattle?
Let's dive into my best bets for tonight's NHL action.
NHL Best Bets for October 19th
- Panthers -1.5 (-135) vs. Flyers
- Jets/Avalanche UNDER 6.5 (+100)
- Blues -125 vs. Kraken
Panthers -1.5 (-135) vs. Flyers
I refuse to believe that the Flyers are a good hockey team. Yes, they're 3-0. Yes, I lost when I bet against them last night. But, I'm sticking to my guns and I'm going to fade them again tonight against the Florida Panthers.
The Flyers rank 30th in 5-on-5 CORSI%, and are averaging only 9.3 high danger scoring chances per game, which is the seventh fewest in the NHL.
I'll die on the hill of fading the Flyers.
Jets/Avalanche UNDER 6.5 (+100)
The Colorado Avalanche haven't come out of the gates with as much offensive prowess as we saw from them last season. They rank 23d in 5-on-5 high-danger scoring chances, while ranking 8th in high-danger scoring chances allowed.
So, we should listen to the numbers from this season and bet accordingly. With the UNDER 6.5 tonight set at +100, betting on a low-scoring game is the right move to make. Especially considering both teams rank in the bottom eight in shooting percentage through the first week of the season.
Blues -125 vs. Kraken
The St. Louis Blues have only played one game this season, so we have only a few stats to go off of, but things looked good in their season opener. They are once again loaded with sharpshooters in the offensive end, and their defense was fantastic in their opener, keeping the Blue Jackets to only five high-danger scoring chances.
The Kraken may be taking a step forward this year, but they're built more for the future. St. Louis is talented enough to handle them tonight.
