NHL Best Bets Today (Back Penguins as Underdogs in Edmonton vs. Oilers)
We're coming off a clean 3-0 sweep on Sunday with my NHL picks! The fraudulent Flyers showed their true colors, the Red Wings overpowered the Ducks, and the UNDER hit in the Eastern Conference matchup between the Blue Jackets and Rangers.
Can we hit another 3-0 sweep tonight? Unlikely, but I'm going to try my best!
Here are my best NHL bets for Monday, October 24th.
NHL Best Bets Today for Monday, October 24
- Senators -115 vs. Stars
- Penguins +106 vs. Oilers
- Maple Leafs/Golden Knights UNDER 6.5 (+115)
Senators -115 vs. Stars
The success the Dallas Stars have had early this NHL season has been largely due to their starting goaltender, Jake Oettinger. He's been lights out through his first four starts, sporting a 4-0 record and a .959 save percentage this season.
But, it's not Oettinger who will be starting tonight. Instead, backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood gets the matchup this evening.
As a whole, the Senators have outperformed the Stars this season. For example, they rank 13th in CORSI% compared to the Stars, who rank 25th.
I'll back the Sens as small favorites.
Penguins +106 vs. Oilers
Jack Campbell starts for the Edmonton Oilers tonight, and I will be fading them in his starts this season for the foreseeable future. He has a disappointing .889 save percentage, and now he faces a Penguins team that ranks fourth in shooting percentage at 14.49%.
The Penguins also rank second in expected goals per 60 minutes, and the Oilers rank 27th in expected goals against per 60 minutes at 3.51.
I love Pittsburgh as an underdog in this spot.
Maple Leafs/Golden Knights UNDER 6.5 (+115)
Heading into the season, many people believed these two teams would be all offense and no defense. That hasn't been the case through the first few weeks. They rank 3rd and 5th in expected goals against, which leads me to believe they're much stronger defensively than people thought they would.
Also, both teams have struggled to find the back of the net. The Golden Knights have only scored on 9.22% of their shots, and the Maple Leafs have only converted 8.91% of their shots into goals. Those two marks rank 21st and 27th in the NHL.
Finally, Toronto has played in five-straight games that has seen six or fewer goals scored.
