I had the day off on Saturday, so I didn't write my NHL best bets article, but you should be happy I didn't.

If nothing else, I'm honest. It hurts to admit it, but I suffered the ole' reverse sweep, going 0-5. That puts a dent in my season-long record, but bad days happen.

It's time to bounce back in a big way. Let's dive into my best bets for Sunday's slate.

NHL Best Bets Record-to-Date

  • 32-32 (-0.63 units)

NHL Best Bets for Today (Sunday, November 6)

  • Hurricanes -155 vs. Maple Leafs
  • Rangers -1.5 (+100) vs. Red Wings
  • Panthers -1.5 (+120) vs. Ducks

Hurricanes -155 vs. Maple Leafs

I have a chalky slate today, but I have to bet the picks I believe in. I firmly believe the Hurricanes are the best team in the NHL. They lead the league in 5-on-5 CORSI% at 62.59%, fifth in expected goals for, and second in expected goals against.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have yet to find their stride this season. They're 22nd in expected goals for per 60 minutes, and they rank 31st in the NHL in 5-on-5 shooting percentage, finding the back of the net on just 6.27 percent of shots. I'll back Carolina on the moneyline in this one.

Rangers -1.5 (+100) vs. Red Wings

The Rangers are playing better than I expected this season. Igor Shesterkin carried them all season last year, but so far in their new campaign, they rank fifth in 5-on-5 CORSI%, while the Red Wings rank 29th.

Detroit has been disappointing this season. They rank in the bottom five of most advanced anayltics, and now they have to take on a great Rangers squad at Madison Square Garden. I'll back New York to win big in this one.

Panthers -1.5 (+120) vs. Ducks

This game is a pretty easy handicap. The Panthers lead the NHL in expected goals for per 60 minutes at 4.04, while the Ducks rank 30th in expected goals against per 60 minutes at 3.76. The Florida offense will be too much for Anaheim to handle, and I expect the Ducks to get overwhelmed from start to finish.

The Panthers have been largely underperforming based on their record, but I think now is a great time to buy low on this squad. They rank second in CORSI% heading into this game, while the Ducks rank 28th. I'll cap today's slate off with another chalky pick.
