Sure, we might have NFL, NBA, and MLB playoffs to be on today. But let's not forget about the NHL!

Five games in professional hockey are scheduled today. Starting with the Seattle Kraken and Chicago Blackhawks at 2 p.m. EST, and finishing off with the San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m. EST.

I have three bets for you, so let's dive into them.

NHL Best Bets Today for Oct. 23

  • Blue Jackets vs. Rangers UNDER 6.5 (+100)
  • Red Wings -145 vs. Ducks
  • Sharks +110 vs. Flyers

Blue Jackets vs. Rangers UNDER 6.5 (+100)

Any game that involves Igor Shesterkin, I'll be inclined to take the UNDER if the total is set at 6.5. The Rangers rank in the top 10 in expected goals against, and also have the defending Vezina Trophy winner in-between the pipes.

The Blue Jackets also rank in the bottom 10 in expected goals for per 60 minutes, and high danger scoring chances. At 6.5, I love the UNDER in this Eastern Conference matchup.

Red Wings -145 vs. Ducks

This is a huge fade of the Anaheim Ducks. They are statistically one of the worst teams in the NHL through the first few games.

In 5-on-5 statistics, they rank 31st in CORSI%, 28th in high-danger scoring chances, 32nd in high-danger scoring chances allowed, 30th in expected goals for per 60 minutes, and 32nd in expected goals against per 60 minutes.

The Red Wings aren't exactly a playoff contender, but they're head and shoulders above the Ducks.

Sharks +110 vs. Flyers

Just like my last pick was a fade of the Ducks, this pick is a fade of the Philadelphia Flyers. I've admittedly lost every bet against the Flyers this season, but if I'm one thing, I'm persistent.

I refuse to believe that the Flyers are a good team. They rank dead last in the NHL in 5-on-5 CORSI%. and their expected goals for per 60 minutes is 1.09 lower than their expected goals against per 60 minutes.

The Sharks are 1-6 on the year, but they'll get their second win tonight.
