NHL Favorites on Insane Run in Final Month of Season
Underdog bettors beware! Favorites have been dominating in the NHL in the past few days. In fact, they're undefeated in the last three days, going 22-0.
NHL Favorites are 22-0 Since Friday
It's not uncommon for favorites in the NHL to get hot near the end of the season. Non-playoff teams have basically given up on the season and are hoping for the best chances in the lottery draft possible, while teams who are in the postseason are battling it out to improve their seeding.
But with that being said 22-0 is an anomaly.
For those people who try to find underdogs with betting value, like I do, it's been a rough few days of betting. It's also certainly possible that this trend continues tonight. Four of the six games on the slate have a favorite of at least -200 on the moneyline, and three of them have games that feature a favorite with -300 odds or longer.
The biggest potentials for an upset tonight are the Senators at +100 against the Kraken, or the Canucks at -105 against the Stars.
NHL Betting Trends: Is This a Sign of Things to Come?
Just because favorites are winning at a high-rate right now, you shouldn't bank on a favorites-heavy betting strategy come time for the NHL Playoffs. The NHL is notorious for having chaotic results in the postseason, and it seems like at least one underdog team goes on a run almost every year.
Last year, it was the Montreal Canadiens who shocked the hockey world with a Stanley Cup runner-up finish. Now, they're the worst team in the Eastern Conference.
What team will be this year's Canadiens? Time will tell, but if you want to continue betting on parlays that are loaded with favorites, you have two weeks left of the regular season to do so.
