Nick Bosa, Trey Hendrickson Highlight Injury News for NFL Divisional Round
By Matt De Saro
The Super Wild Card Weekend in history is in our rearview mirror and the race to the Super Bowl got a whole lot clearer. With just eight teams left, it becomes a lot singular focused to break down each matchup and find the edge.
That being said, several key injuries could still play a prominent role in how all these games go down. Let's look at some of the more relevant reports heading into the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Nick Bosa SF - Concussion (Questionable)
Nick Bosa was knocked out of the 49ers Wild Card game against the Dallas Cowboys after taking a big hit in the first half. Bosa collided with DT D.J. Jones in the second quarter and was placed in concussion protocols.
The 49ers were already down three key players in Marcell Harris, Talanoa Hufanga, and Maurice Hurst. Bosa is one of the most effective pass rushers in the entire league and finished the year with 15.5 sacks and led the NFL with 21 tackles for loss. If Bosa can’t go, Arden Key is the next DE on the depth chart. With 6.5 sacks this year, Key is still considered one of the better edge defenders in the NFL,
BetSided's Reed Wallach is backing the 49ers to cover this Saturday night vs. the Packers, but does he think they can win outright?
Jimmy Garoppolo SF - Shoulder (Probable)
Coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters yesterday to provide updates on some of his injured players. Surprisingly, Jimmy G’s name came up after it was revealed he sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder during the second quarter of last weekend’s game against Dallas.
Shanahan said that Garoppolo labored through the game and was in some pain. He added that he will practice this week and is expected to be fine for Saturday. The QB has also been dealing with a lingering finger injury though it hasn’t appeared to affect him much.
Trey Hendrickson CIN - Concussion (Questionable)
The Bengals got some good news after their win in the Wild Card round. Top pass rusher Trey Henrickson, who suffered a concussion last week, is “progressing through the concussion protocol in a positive manner,” according to head coach Zac Taylor. This seems to suggest that Hendrickson will be good to go on Saturday against the Titans.
Derrick Henry TEN - (Questionable)
Speaking of the Titans, Tennesee might be getting the best injury news of the weekend. Derrick Henry is dangerously close to returning to action. Dangerous for the rest of the league that is.
The best rusher in the league, when healthy, suffered a foot injury in October and required surgery. While coach Mike Vrabel has not given an answer to whether or not Henry plays this week, he did acknowledge that Henry was practicing in pads today. Henry is expected to be activated this week but his chances to actually play are still up in the air.
