There's a new National League Cy Young frontrunner at consensus sportsbooks.

Miami Marlins star pitcher Sandy Alcantara has surpassed reigning NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes atop the odds board to win the 2022 award. After Burnes struggled for the second consecutive start (he didn't pitch past the 5th inning in either appearance,) we have seen the betting market adjust.

Here are the updated odds at consensus sportsbook for NL Cy Young:

National League Cy Young Odds

  • Sandy Alcantara: +400
  • Corbin Burnes: +525
  • Joe Musgrove: +650
  • Pablo Lopez: +1000
  • Carlos Rodon: +1100
  • Zack Wheeler: +1500
  • Zac Gallen: +1500
  • Max Fried: +1500
  • Kyle Wright: +2000
  • Aaron Nola: +2500

Alcantara's Hot Streak Makes him Cy Young Favorite

It has been an incredible run for the new Cy Young favorite, who leads the NL in batters faced, WAR and is decimal points behind in ERA at 1.61.

In his last start, Alcantara tossed 9 shutout innings, but had to settle for a no decision.

While Burnes has been having a solid season, he is not in a class of Alcantara, who is not only mixing in video game like stats, but also has a higher volume than any other pitcher in baseball. Team success is a component of Cy Young, but when a pitcher is lapping the competition like Alcantara is, voters are going to recognize. For example, Alcantara has 5 starts of 8 innings or more, while no other pitcher has more than 2.

Alcantara's odds are only getting shorter as the season progresses. Make sure to get in now before the number shifts further.
