It’s Aug. 1, 2021, and oddsmakers still aren’t respecting the San Francisco Giants.

Yes, they have them as near locks to make the playoffs, but they still don’t see them winning the National League West despite leading the division since early in the season.

As of writing this article, WynnBET has the Giants’ odds to win the NL West set at +225. Significantly behind the Los Angeles Dodgers who are still the -250 favorites to win their eighth straight division championship.

At 65-39, the Giants hold the best record in Major League Baseball. They also currently hold a three game lead on the division over the Dodgers, and a 6.5 game lead on the San Diego Padres.

A big reason for their success has been their pitching, as their third in the Majors in team earned run average at 3.54. Their pitching has been lead by Kevin Gausman, who sports the sixth best ERA among all starting pitchers at 2.35. Anthony DeSclafani has been a great No. 2 to Gausman, as he sports a 10-5 record with a 3.10 ERA.

The Giants’ bats have also been more than serviceable. They rank eighth in the Majors in runs per game at 4.86.

If we were still in April, May, or even June, then I’d agree that we could possibly see some regression from the Giants, but they continue to prove time and time again that they are for real. They’ve held the best record in baseball for the majority of the season, and they just keep winning.

Not only do they have a better record than the Dodgers, but they’ve dominated them in recent games. The Giants bested them in each of their last two series against each other, winning five of the last seven meetings.

The Giants acquired Kris Bryant from the Chicago Cubs at the MLB trade deadline, but the Dodgers got even better by trading for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals.

Despite the recent acquisitions, the Giants have done enough this season to be worthy of better odds than +225 to snap the Dodgers divisional dominance.
