The Texas Longhorns would be in a much better spot if they could’ve pulled off the upset over Alabama, but still come into this Big 12 matchup with Texas Tech ranked in the Top 25 in the country and 2-1. They are missing their starting quarterback and Texas Tech has made changes behind center too.

Can the Longhorns win their Big 12 opener in Lubbock with Hudson Card at QB?

Texas vs. Texas Tech Prediction and Pick

Quinn Ewers is a game time decision with an injury so Texas could have their star quarterback return. If he doesn't, they’ll stick with Hudson Card. UTSA is a pretty solid team and Texas got a 41-20 win over the Roadrunners. Card only threw for 161 yards and one touchdown, but it was the Bijan Robinson show. Robinson went for 183 yards and three touchdowns on 20 attempts. That’s almost 10 yards a pop.

Texas Tech has the 18th best rushing defense in college football, only allowing 82 yards on the ground a game so far. They haven’t seen anyone like Robinson though -- because there really isn’t anyone like Robinson. He is a dominant weapon for the Longhorns and one of the silver linings with the Ewers injury is that Steve Sarkisian is forced to lean on Robinson more than ever.

Donovan Smith has taken over for the Red Raiders, replacing Tyler Shough under center, and he was a star against Murray State. Smith threw four touchdowns in that one, but last week did not have the same success against NC State. Texas’s defense has shown us that they are a whole lot closer to NC State defensively than they are to Murray State.

Pick: Texas -6.5 (-108)
