No. 8 Oregon vs. Cal Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 9

Remember when the Oregon Ducks got destroyed in primetime by Georgia to start their season? This is not that team anymore.

They have adjusted their game plan to get the most out of Bo Nix and won six straight games. A win over UCLA last week asserted Oregon as the top dog in the Pac 12. Meanwhile, Cal is 3-4 after hanging around and covering against Washington last week. 

Can Oregon continue their impressive run or is this a classic let-down spot after a big win.

Oregon vs. Cal Prediction and Pick

Cal’s defense is not very good. They are 82nd in the country in total yards per game, but they might be well suited to give Oregon a hard time. Cal is 27th against the run and allowed 102 rush yards vs. Washington last week. Yes, Washington throws the ball all over the yard, but Cal found a way to hang around in the 28-21 loss.

Oregon loves to run the ball and they do it better than almost everyone in the country. The telling stat for this week is Cal’s record against the spread following a loss. They are 6-1 ATS in those games and that is a big reason I like them at home this week. 

Oregon did everything well against UCLA last week. College Gameday was up in Eugene and they beat a top 10 team at home. That is the highest of highs for any college team. I think they will come back down to earth after rushing for 262 and passing for 283 against the Bruins. Bo Nix threw for five touchdowns in that game, it was probably his best performance of his collegiate career. 

Oregon is the best team in the Pac 12, but Cal has a way of hanging around in games and the Ducks will let their foot off the gas ever so slightly this week.
