By Reed Wallach
Purdue has gotten off to a scorching start this season, winning by an average margin of 32 points through three games, but now face their toughest test to date against North Carolina.
The Boilermakers may have their best team in years under Matt Painter, so how will they do in the Hall of Fame Basketball Tip Off? Let's assess by first looking at the odds, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
North Carolina vs. Purdue Odds, Spread and Total
Spread:
- North Carolina: +7 (-110)
- Purdue: -7 (-110)

- North Carolina: +230
- Purdue: -290
Total: 152.5 (Over -110/Under -120)
North Carolina vs. Purdue Prediction and Pick
Purdue is legit.
The team has the size to match North Carolina on the glass with 7'4" Zach Edey and 6'10" Trevion Williams, but also the skill on the perimeter in emerging wing Jaden Ivey.
Ivey has been dynamite this season, posting an effective field goal percentage of over 54% and will give UNC's point of attack defense trouble all game long.
The Heels like to get out transition, 49th in tempo this season, but will struggle to excel against the No. 2 team in offensive efficiency that is also a terror on the offensive glass, top 10 in second chance rate.
North Carolina allowed 80 points to the likes of Brown and College of Charleston, and may let up 100 to Purdue if they want to increase the amount of possessions. If they try to play in the half court, Purdue will pick them apart on the offensive end with their ability to drive and kick to the likes of Sasha Stefanovic, a career 40% three-point shooter. Ultimately, this feels like a statement game for Ivey and co, so I'll back Purdue all the way up to -7.5.
PICK: Purdue -7, play to -7.5
