North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Prediction and Odds (The Tar Heel's Bubble is About to Burst)
By Matt De Saro
The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking for their seventh win in a row when they face off against the North Carolina Tar Heels this afternoon. UNC, meanwhile, is coming off a loss to Pittsburgh 76-67 which snapped a modest two-game win streak.
The Tar Heels just haven’t looked right all season and are 11-14-1 against the spread. These two bubble teams are in need of every point they can get and won’t leave anything on the floor tonight. Here are the odds for this ACC showdown, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Odds, Spread, and Total
Spread:
- North Carolina +4.5 (-110)
- Virginia Tech -4.5 (-110)
Moneyline:
- North Carolina +155
- Virginia Tech -190
Total: 144.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Prediction and Pick
The Tar Heels are in real danger of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2009-10 season after the departure of Tyler Hansboro. They could barely afford the loss to Pittsburgh and damn sure needed to beat Virginia Tech to keep their hopes alive after February. The fact that the Hokies are playing great basketball right now doesn’t help matters. VT is also in contention for a tournament bid after an abysmal start to the year thanks to a fantastic second half. In fact, they might be one of the best-unranked teams in the country right now.
This leaves UNC with very little wiggle room to work with tonight in a near “must-win” scenario. Sadly, I don’t think desperation will be enough to overcome the juggernaut that is VT basketball right now. VT is also playing a revenge game after getting beat by UNC when they were not playing as well earlier in the season. I’m happy to lay the points here and take the Hokies in what should be one heck of a show.
Pick: Virginia Tech -4.5 (-110)
