If Notre Dame wants any hope of returning to the College Football Playoff, a win against No. 18 Wisconsin this Saturday is mandatory.

The Fighting Irish looked subpar at best in their first two games, needing overtime to beat Florida State and barely escaping with the win against Toledo. They rebounded in a big way by taking down a tough Purdue team 27-13 in their Week 3 matchup.

Wisconsin stumbled in the opening week of the season, falling to Penn State 16-10, but won big in a bounce back spot in Week 2 by defeating Eastern Michigan 34-7. They’ll be coming off a BYE Week heading into the matchup with Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is ranked No. 12 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, and Wisconsin is ranked No. 18.

Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Prediction and Pick

Coming off the BYE week, I’m going to back Wisconsin to cover the 5.5-point spread. I’m trying not to overvalue a Week 1 loss against a Penn State team that I think is largely underrated this season.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame has yet to look extremely impressive in a game. Even when the Fighting Irish won and covered the spread against Purdue, they didn’t look like the same team that made the College Football Playoff last year.

Wisconsin averaged 4.7 yards per carry through its first two games, which is good news for Baders backers because Notre Dame has struggled to stop the run this season. The Fighting Irish have allowed 4.3 yards per carry this season which ranks 75th in the country. That’s not good considering they’ve yet to face a ranked team.

Wisconsin will run all over them, give me the Badgers at -5.5.
