It’s been nearly a month since Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, and he’s still on the team. Brooklyn, who saw Rudy Gobert go for a massive haul just days before Durant’s request went public, is looking for a historic package for one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.

While the Nets are valid in asking for all the assets a team has, it isn’t a productive strategy. Shams Charania reported the Nets and Celtics discussed the possibility of Jaylen Brown being the center of a deal for Durant, but the Nets declined.

A myriad of deals with young stars have been thrown out during this process and it continues to end one way: with the Nets declining. Brooklyn has set its standard for an offer astronomically high, which leads me to believe that Durant will be on the Nets come the start of the season.

With that in mind, I’d implore you to take the Nets to win the NBA title next season. Right now, FanDuel has the Nets’ odds to win it all at 15/1. That is as low a price as you’ll get with Kevin Durant still on the team. The Celtics, who are simply rumored to be in talks for Durant, are now the favorites at +450. There’s not many teams with better value to win the NBA championship next season than the Brooklyn Nets.

If Brooklyn can get everyone in camp this year, the roster isn’t a terrible one either. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are still there, and Ben Simmons – a 6’10” All-Defensive player – is slated to make his return. The Nets also traded for Royce O’Neale and acquired T.J. Warren to help fill out the rotation.

There’s a lot of potential in Brooklyn and it’s simply a good business opportunity to back them right now.
