Oddsmakers Have No Faith in San Francisco Giants
What do the San Francisco Giants need to do to earn some respect?
As each day passes, the Giants, who have been the surprise story of the 2021 MLB season, continue to prove they’re for real. They currently hold the best record in baseball at 50-29, and they hold a game-and-a-half lead on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ultra-competitive National League West.
Despite all that, the Giants continue to be disrespected by oddsmakers. WynnBET currently has the Giants third on the odds list to win the NL West at +425. The San Diego Padres are second at +240, and somehow the Dodgers are sizable -250 favorites despite not leading the division all year.
To be fair, the Giants just dropped two-straight games to the Dodgers, but with their next two series being against the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals, expect them to re-establish a firm grasp on the division.
As you would expect from the team with the best record in baseball, the Giants are getting both phenomenal pitching and hitting through the first three months of the season. They currently rank fourth in team earned run average at 3.21, and seventh in runs per game at 4.87.
Kevin Gausman, who the Giants signed ahead of the shortened 2020 season, is leading the San Francisco rotation with a Cy Young level season. Through his first 16 starts, he sports an 8-2 record with a 1.68 ERA and a 0.807 WHIP, both of which are career lows for Gausman.
The Giants have moved up the list of odds to win the World Series since the beginning of the season, but the best team in baseball is still listed at +2000 which is 10th among all teams. Their NL West opponents, the Dodgers and Padres, are two of the top three teams on the list at +325 and +700.
I was skeptical about the Giants' success early in the season, but we’re three months into the 2021 campaign and they aren’t going anywhere. It’s time to give the Giants the respect they deserve.
