Oddsmakers Indicate Reverse Line Movement in Washington Football Team vs. Bills
By Ben Heisler
When oddsmakers, such as the ones at WynnBET Sportsbook move or update the line for games, it's usually a result of lots of money coming in one on side. The sportsbook's goal is to traditionally try and collect as much even action as possible, so that they can guarantee themselves a profit off the "juice," or "vig."
In today's matchup between the Washington Football Team and the Buffalo Bills, the opposite has happened.
In a release, WynnBET announced that they have taken in 80.1% of their bets, along with 79.2% of the money for Buffalo to cover the spread against Washington. However, after opening at Bills -9.5 at the start of the week, the line has shifted in reverse, moving the Football Team nearly two-and-a-half points in the opposite direction, currently at +7 at odds of -110 (bet $110 to win $100).
In fact, the movement in today's game is the largest of the Week 3 NFL slate, according to WynnBET.
Why would that be the case?
Sharp Money is coming in on the Washington Football Team against the Bills for Week 3
The likely indication is that sharp money, or "professional" money has come in heavy on Washington, leading the oddsmakers to believe that they may have set the line too high.
Just because public bettors are flooding to bet Buffalo, and giving WynnBET an uneven amount of money towards the Bills' side, does not necessarily mean they want to continue to adjust the line. In this case, the sportsbooks are siding with the sharps, despite being on the wrong side of the money.
Today's 1pm ET matchup should be a fairly compelling matchup, especially when two of the best wide receivers in the league matchup up in Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs. You can bet on which of the two will have the most receptions along with receiving yards over at WynnBET.
The Bills are 1-1 against the spread to start the season. After losing at home to Pittsburgh outright as 6.5-point favorites in Week 1, they bounced back with a dominant road win against the Miami Dolphins, covering the 3-point spread in a 35-0 shutout win where Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was knocked out with bruised ribs.
Washington is 0-2 ATS this year, losing as 2-point favorites at home to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, and failing to cover the 3-points in their 30-29 comeback win in Week 2 vs. the New York Giants.
