Oddsmakers Predict Another Disappointing Season for LSU
After a dream season in 2019 resulted in an undefeated record and a National Championship, the LSU Tigers came crashing down to Earth in 2020, finishing the season with a disappointing 5-5 record.
LSU fans shouldn’t be expecting the team to rise back to the top of the SEC in 2021, as WynnBET has released win totals for the top teams in college football and LSU’s is set at 8.5 with the under favored to the over.
With a 12 game schedule set for their 2021 campaign, oddsmakers believe the Tigers will finish around the 8-4 mark. While that’s a step in the right direction after finishing with a .500 record last season, it’s not close to the level they would like to be at.
If there’s one thing that is working in LSU’s favor this season, it's that its returning 16 of their 22 starters from last year.
Myles Brennan and Max Johnson will battle it out in training camp for the starting QB role under Ed Orgeron’s offense. Brennan will hope to win the role back, after being lost for the season last year due to an injury suffered in Week 3 against Missouri.
Where LSU will need to pick up the slack this season, will be its defense. To call the Tiger’s defense horrible would be an understatement. They ranked dead last in the entire country in opponent passing yards per game, allowing an average of 323 yards through the air per game.
They weren’t much better in stopping the run either, allowing 169 yards on the ground which ranked 65th in FBS.
While they’re still a shadow of their 2019 team, securing a 10-win season and a berth in one of the New Year's Six bowls certainly isn’t out of the question if they can find answers to the questions they have at quarterback and defensive secondary.
They're fifth on the odds list at WynnBET to win the SEC at +1400.
