Ohio State vs. Northwestern Prediction and Odds for College Football Week 10 (C.J. Stroud Stat Pads Heisman Case)
By Reed Wallach
Ohio State survived their first road test of the season in Week 9 and now hit the road again in Week 10 against what is likely the worst team in the Big Ten.
The Buckeyes are in Evanston this weekend to face a lowly Northwestern team as an overwhelming favorite. This game should be a cakewalk for Ohio State in a game that should help C.J. Stroud pad his stat line and help his Heisman Trophy case, but can his team cover the spread?
Let's check the odds and find the best way to play this Big Ten matchup:
Ohio State vs. Northwestern Odds, Spread and Total
Ohio State vs. Northwestern Betting Trends
- Northwestern has covered three times this season, each time as an underdog (3-2)
- Ohio State has gone over in six of eight games this season
- Northwestern has gone over in four of five games as an underdog
Ohio State vs. Northwestern Prediction and Pick
Ohio State should have little issue covering this spread as Northwestern enters on a seven game losing streak, allowing nearly six yards per play.
If you compare the Buckeyes big spread marks, you can see how cheap you may be getting them this week despite laying north of five touchdowns. The Buckeyes were -30.5 against Iowa in Columbus, who was favored by 11.5 over Northwestern last week.
The Buckeyes are No. 1 in the country in yards per play and top five in defensive points per drive, so teams are struggling to score against this revamped OSU defense under first year defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
Ohio State should score on every drive against a Northwestern defense that is bottom 30 in success rate while the Wildcats struggle to find the end zone even once. While Ohio State could pull their starters early, the team should cover with ease.
