For the second consecutive season, Ohio State fell flat on its face in The Game against Michigan.

The No. 2 ranked Buckeyes lost as nine-point favorites to No. 3 Michigan at home, 45-23, in a game in which Ohio State's defense failed to limit explosive plays and convert in plus territory. The team had been one of the top three choices to win the National Championship all season long and seemed poised to be the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, but now are on the outside looking in.

However, oddsmakers aren't ruling out former Heisman Trophy favorite CJ Stroud and the Buckeyes just yet.

2022 College Football National Championship Odds

The College Football Playoff is starting to become more and more clear after Saturday's results as Georgia and Michigan appear to be locked into the top two spots while TCU and USC are a win away from locking themselves in.

However, what if one of those two teams lose? Could Ohio State, who lost by 22 points at home, fall backward into the CFP and instantly enter the National Championship race again? This is what oddsmakers are indicating ahead of the latest ranking reveal on Tuesday night.

Both TCU and USC are small favorites in their Conference Championship matchups in regular season rematches. If USC were to lose, it would have two losses on the season, one more than the Buckeyes and may not have a case to stay in over Ohio State in a debate between two at-large teams.

The Horned Frogs are undefeated at the moment, but there is no denying that Ohio State has the name brand to be pushed in by the committee, if a situation like that arises pending the result of the Big 12 title game.

Ohio State will be tuned into both of these title games over the weekend in hopes that at least one team goes down, pushing them back into the mix as an at-large team, and oddsmakers have taken notice of it by placing them as the same odds to win the National Championship as TCU and USC.
