The Edmonton Oilers (4-0-0) remain perfect on the season, defeating the Arizona Coyotes last night, 5-1. Oilers’ star center Connor McDavid recorded a three-point night, scoring two goals and picking up an assist.

Edmonton will defend its perfect season on the road against the defensively struggling, but still very solid Vegas Golden Knights (1-2-0).

The Golden Knights took their second consecutive loss to the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, losing 3-1. Vegas peppered goalie Jordan Binnington with 43 shots, but they could only get one puck past Binnington; a goal from the stick of William Karlsson.

Oilers vs. Golden Knights Prediction and Pick

It would appear that Edmonton may continue riding goalie Mikko Koskinen (2-0, 1.36 GAA, .959 SV%) sending him back in the crease tonight against Vegas. Koskinen recorded a 3.17 goals against average last year, so I don’t find his 1.36 GAA in the early part of the season as sustainable.

Koskinen is getting more work due to injuries to goalies Mike Smith and Alex Stalock.

Although the Golden Knights lost left wing Max Pacioretty for a month, their offense still has quite a bit of firepower. Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault, and Reilly Smith make a formidable top line and they should soon be buoyed by the return of right wing Mark Stone; currently “day-to-day” with a lower body injury.

Vegas’ offense has failed to record a power play goal this season, one of only two teams (Boston Bruins) that have failed to do so. That cold streak with the man-advantage ends tonight.

Koskinen has played too well in net for the Oilers and the offense has been too quiet for the Golden Knights.

Nothing is quiet about Vegas, and it’ll show tonight.

I’m taking the Golden Knights on the puck line at -1.5 (+180).
