The Oklahoma City Thunder finished 22-50 last season, 11 games back of the 33-39 San Antonio Spurs who finished 10th in the West to squeeze into the Play-In tournament.

The Thunder were not good last year, and they may not be much better this season as they look to rebuild for the future.

Oklahoma City’s offense averaged just 105 points per game in 2020-21, besting only the Orlando Magic and the dead-last offense of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Thunder’s defense didn’t do much either, as they allowed 115.6 points per game which was 26th in the NBA last year.

At guard, Oklahoma City has Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who may be the face of the franchise at the moment. But, Gilgeous-Alexander could receive a lot of help in the backcourt from the young Australian guard Josh Giddey.

Giddey was the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft in 2021 and the 18-year old (19-years old on Oct. 10th) scored 18 points in his preseason debut against the Charlotte Hornets, going 8-for-12 from the field and hitting two of four three-point attempts. The teenager also recorded seven rebounds and three assists in the contest.

The future looks intriguing for Oklahoma City. I repeat, the future.

Oklahoma City Thunder Win Total Prediction - 23.5 Wins (Over -116/Under -105)

I think the Thunder have a shot at winning 24 games and hitting the over, because last year they won 22 in a 72 game season. They get to play a full 82-game schedule this year! That should be able to help them surpass last year’s win total.

Oklahoma City is going to have its hands full in the West. They didn’t make any major moves to justify any jump in the standings, and they should get destroyed just like a rebuilding team should.

Many publications have pegged the Thunder as the worst team in the NBA right now, and it’s justifiable. Just imagine how bad they could be if they get any injuries. What if Gilgeous-Alexander’s plantar fascia issue from last year comes back?

Despite getting to play a full season in 2021-22, I’ll say that Oklahoma City will still finish with less than 23.5 wins. Winning is nice, but I really don’t think it’s in the Thunder’s plans for this season.

Oklahoma City Thunder Playoff Odds

The Thunder will not make the playoffs. Any bet on them making the playoffs is ill-advised.

Oklahoma City is +2200 to make the playoffs, but there is no use in betting against a sure thing. Take that money and put it on a team with shorter odds to make the NBA playoffs, like the New York Knicks or the Memphis Grizzlies or something.

Bet on almost any other team. Not this one.

Let’s just watch Josh Giddey play basketball and hold onto our money.
