Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State: Which Team Is Worthy of Bet to Win CFP Heading Into Bedlam?

The final week of the regular season is making for some of the most compelling games of the season, not only Ohio State vs. Michigan but also Oklahoma State hosting Oklahoma in the annual 'Bedlam' game.

Oklahoma State has quietly put together a formidable College Football Playoff resume in the shadow of Oklahoma's high profile season and quarterback changes. The Cowboys are 10-1 with a lone loss at Iowa State and were No. 9 in last week's CFP rankings.

If Oklahoma State wins that would end the Sooners chances for a CFP bid. Mike Gundy's team would move onto face Baylor in the Big 12 Championship, in the mix for the third and fourth spots in the top four.

As for the Sooners, the offense has struggled the past two weeks against Baylor and Iowa State and now face the toughest defense to date. If OU were to win 'Bedlam' they would face Oklahoma State on a neutral field again next week in the Big 12 Championship.

With both teams hanging onto College Football Playoff hopes, which team is worth a bet to win the National Championship at this point?

Odds to Win the National Championship

  • Oklahoma State: +4000
  • Oklahoma: +4000

I stated in this weeks College Football Playoff power rankings that I don't envision either making a run towards the National Championship, but this can be a handy guide if you are looking to build out a portfolio of remaining teams in the hunt.

It's pretty simple for Oklahoma State, beat Oklahoma on your home field and send them packing. That's it.

The team is currently -3 (-120) at WynnBET against their bitter rival in what should be a chaotic atmosphere. If the Cowboys come up short, I can't see OU following up that performance and beating OSU twice in as many weeks.

I believe the Cowboys, who are fifth in defensive success rate and have the most sacks in the country this season, will be able to overwhelm Caleb Williams, who has shown suspect decision making over the past two weeks.

OU is not a true CFP contender and not worthy of a bet at this number.

On the other hand, Oklahoma State is still far from a lock to make the top four even if they win the next two weeks, and I question if their offense can hold up in CFP matchups against the likes of Georgia or potentially Alabama.

With that being said, if you have other bets in this market and are looking to add another price, Oklahoma State is worth a play considering it has two shots to foil its in-state rival.
