Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State Prediction, Odds, Against Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 13
By Matt De Saro
The 2021 Egg Bowl not only has annual bragging rights at stake but also has ramifications for bowl game positioning.
The No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels and No. 25 Mississippi State Bulldogs face off at Davis Wade Stadium Thursday night for the 118th playing of the game. Ole Miss currently holds the Golden Egg after winning last year’s Egg Bowl 31-24.
The Bulldogs are coming off a very easy win over the 5-6 Tennesee State Tigers with a final score of 55-10. But, the Tigers are in fourth place in the FCS’s Ohio Valley Conference and can hardly be considered a real opponent.
Some would say this is a tune-up game but the Rebels are a far superior team and I think the game did more to hurt the Bulldogs. Teams tend to play–down to their competition if they are much worse and that can leave them unprepared for Ole Miss on Thanksgiving.
The Rebels were supposed to have a similar tune-up game against Vanderbilt but the game was hardly a blowout. After quarterback Matt Corral won by 31-17 at home, he huddled the offense up in the locker room and said that it was an embarrassing game by the offense. He added that if they play like that against the Bulldogs they will lose. I don’t disagree.

Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State Prediction and Pick
While I, much like Corral, didn’t like what I saw from Ole Miss’ offense last week, I think they bounce back just fine here. With Lane Kiffin at the helm, I think they turn it around this weekend and get up for this massive rivalry game.
The Rebels shine in the passing game, as Matt Corral looks to put last week’s performance behind him. Corral has 3,099 yards on the year and is completing 67.4 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and three interceptions. The Rebels are one of the best programs at protecting their QB and Corral has been sacked just four times this season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 107th in the nation with just four sacks on the year which ranks them 107th overall.
Mississippi State's secondary isn’t much better and allows 229.7 passing yards per game. Good enough for 75th in all of college football. Corral and the Rebels meanwhile are 18th in the FBS with 286.3 passing yards per game.
I think that Corral and this offense take of this game early in the wake of a “close call” against Vanderbilt. Kiffin and company have all the skills needed to pilot this team to its second straight win in the Egg Bowl.
Pick: Ole Miss -110 to win
