The men’s Olympic golf is set to get underway this week, and the event promises to be a fun one.

One thing that will be extremely unique with this tournament is that for us North Americans, it will be one of the only times that we’ll get to watch golf at night. The opening tee-shot is set to take place Thursday morning at 7:30am in Japan, which means we can settle in and watch it at 6:30pm et on Wednesday night. I don’t remember the last time, if ever, that I could watch live golf during prime time hours.

Collin Morikawa is set as the betting favorite to win the gold medal at +700. If you want to see our full odds breakdown, check out the odds article I wrote earlier this week.

Also, if you are looking for picks to win gold, I broke down my top three bets in a separate article on Monday.

Now it’s time to take a look at some golfers who may not win the gold medal, but have a good chance at landing on the podium or at least close to it. WynnBET has released odds to finish in the top five at the Olympics, and there are some golfers that present some fantastic betting value. All odds listed are via WynnBET.

Joaquin Niemann (CHI) +425

Joaquin Niemann is one of the best golfers that casual fans may not know about. The young Chilean has had a fantastic start to his PGA Tour career, and he has a chance to win a medal for his country this week.

He ranks 12th in both strokes gained: off-the-tee and strokes gained: total heading into the event, so his numbers line up for success at Kasumigaseki Country Club. He’s also entering the week in good form, as he finished T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month. +425 for him to finish in the top 5 is one of the best bets of the week.

Garrick Higgo (RSA) +850

Garrick Higgo introduced himself to American golf fans this season by winning the Palmetto Championship in June. The South African usually competes on the European Tour, where he captured a win at the Canary Islands Championship in May.

The South African has established himself as one of the better putters in the world, ranking 5th in putts per green in regulations on the European Tour. He also ranks 20th in strokes average and 25th in driving distance.

He’s proven he can compete with the best golfers in the world, so there’s certainly value on taking him to finish in the top 5 at +850.

Jhonattan Vegas (VEN) +1000

The majority of Olympic participants took last week’s 3M Open off to give them a week of rest and preparation ahead of this week’s event. Vegas was one of the few golfers who did not, and he almost came away with a win. He finished T2, two strokes back from the winner Cameron Champ, but the strong finish shouldn’t have surprised too many people.

Vegas has been in fantastic form as of late, as the Venezuelan has finished 11th or better in four of his last five starts dating back to the AT&T Byron Nelson in June. Not only that, but he ranks 4th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: off-the-tee which seems to be the most important stat if golfers want to succeed at Kasumigaseki Country Club.
