Olympic Golf Odds: Jon Rahm Stands in Way of Team USA Gold
In case you forgot, Golf is now an Olympic sport. 2016 was the first time since 1904 that golf was in the Olympics, and now it's back again for the 2020 edition in Tokyo, Japan.
The top golfers in the world took this week’s 3M Open off in order to prepare for the competition that’s set to tee off on July 29th. The women’s Olympic golf event is set to take place after the men’s, starting on August 4th.
In 2016, Justin Rose won the gold medal for England while Henrick Stenson won the silver medal for Sweden and Matt Kuchar won the bronze medal for the USA.

Team USA is Breathing Down Jon Rahm’s Neck
The United States of America is undoubtedly the top golf country in the men’s game, but they only managed to scrap out a bronze medal in the 2016 games. With four of the top five golfers on the odds listed representing the United States, they have a great chance of capturing their first gold medal in golf since Charles Sands in 1900.
Collin Morikawa is coming off his second major victory at the Open Championship, and he’s likely going to be the toughest competition for Jon Rahm of Spain.
Rahm is the deserving favorite at +500. He hasn’t finished outside of the top 10 in an event since the AT&T Byron Nelson over two months ago. He also has finished 8th or better in his last five starts in major tournaments. He also leads the PGA Tour in total strokes gained at +2.028.
Hideki Matsuyama has chance to win on home soil
Hideki Matsuyama became a hero in Japan when he won this year’s Masters tournament, becoming the first Japanese male to win a major tournament. He has a chance to raise his hero status even further at the Olympics, as he’ll be competing on home soil.
He’s competed in five events since his win at the Masters, but he hasn’t been able to recreate the magic he experienced at Augusta. He’s yet to finish in the top 20 since his win.
His fellow countryman Rikuya Hoshino will also be competing at the Olympic games. The 25-year old is currently ranked No. 84 in the world, and he has five career wins on the Japan Golf Tour including two wins in 2021. WynnBET has his odds set at +10000.
