Open Championship Live Odds: 3 Golfers Who Are Great Value Bets After Round 1
The first round of the 2020 Open Championship is in the books.
When golf tournaments are played on courses with unpredictable weather, as is the case at many Open Championships played in England, some golfers can have an advantage depending on when they teed off. That was the case today as the players who played an early morning round competed in fantastic conditions, which reflected in the scoring. As the day went on, the wind picked up, and golfers who started their round in the afternoon were lucky to post a score under par.
Louis Oosthuizen holds the clubhouse lead at 6-under par, as he once again finds himself in contention at a major championship.
Let’s take a look at the live odds at WynnBET, as well as a few names who present betting value heading into round 2.
Live Odds to win the Open Championship
- Jordan Spieth +400
- Louis Oosthuizen +500
- Collin Morikawa +1750
- Brooks Koepka +2000
- Tommy Fleetwood +2200
- Brian Harman +2200
- Dustin Johnson +2200
- Webb Simpson +2200
- Viktor Hovland +2500
- Rory McIlroy +2500
- Scottie Scheffler +2500
- Stewart Cink +3000
- Justin Rose +3000
- Xander Schauffele +3000
- Paul Casey +4000
Collin Morikawa +1750
The young phenom sits at 3-under par, three strokes back from the leader Oosthuizen. If you didn’t bet on him before the tournament began, now is the time to jump on the Morikawa train.
The 24-year old is the best iron player in the world right now, and it’s not even close. He ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach the green, averaging 1.502 per round. The next closest is Paul Casey at .907. If/when Morikawa dials in his short game, he’s virtually unbeatable and he showed flashes of that ability today.
Webb Simpson +2200
I listed Webb Simpson as one of my top three picks to win the tournament this week, and I’m ecstatic with his first round. He shot 4-under par and currently sits T4, but what is even more impressive is that he did it in the afternoon when the conditions were less than ideal.
As the golfer who shot the best among everyone who played in the afternoon, more favorable conditions for him tomorrow morning could add up to him being at the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend.
His odds this week were insulting for someone of his caliber, and he’s more than worth a bet at +2200 given he’s only two strokes off the lead after round 1.
Xander Schauffele +3000
Xander Schauffele is still seeking his first major win, but he’s consistently been one of the best golfers in major tournaments throughout the past few years.
As someone who has bet on him to win almost every major during this stretch, I decided not to wager on him this week and save myself some Sunday heartbreak. But even with his inability to close out the show in previous tournaments, he should still be worth a strong look at +3000 after round one.
He finished the day at 1-under par, five strokes back from the lead, but he did play in the afternoon when the conditions were less than desirable. A strong second round will put him in contention for his first major championship once again.
