Open Championship Prop Bets: Will There Be a Hole-in-One?
There’s nothing in the sport of golf that’s more electric than a hole-in-one.
Many people, like myself, are still seeking their first ace in their golf career, but it’s not as much of a rarity to see one on the PGA Tour.
This week the golf world turns its attention to the 149th Open Championship, set to take place at Royal St. George’s in England. While you may think it will be near impossible for a hole-in-one to occur at a major championship at such a tough track, oddsmakers don’t agree.
WynnBET has prop odds set for whether or not a hole-in-one will occur at this week’s Open. The “yes” is set as the -150 favorite and the “no” is the +110 underdog. At -150 odds, that means there’s an implied probability of 60% that a hole-in-one will happen.
Lucky for us, we have some historic data to base this bet off of.
The last year that the Open Championship was hosted at Royal St. George’s was in 2011. Darren Clarke went on to win the event with 150/1 odds, but the tournament also witnessed two different aces.
Dustin Johnson got a hole-in-one in the opening round on the par 3 16th hole. It's a 161-yard hole that will be nothing more than a 9 iron for most golfers. If we’re going to see a hole-in-one this week, it will likely occur on this hole.
Tom Watson also recorded an ace during the 2011 Open. It occurred in the second round on the par 3 sixth hole. It’s a 176-yard hole that will likely be an 8 or 9 iron for most golfers. It’s a three tiered green, so depending on the hole placement, golfers may be able to use the slope to funnel the ball toward the hole.
If you want a fun prop bet to wager on this week, the hole-in-one prop is the best option. Given that we saw two aces last time it was played at this course, the “yes” is a fantastic bet at -150 odds.
